Arunachal CM Pema Khandu Pushes Strategic Road Connectivity with Assam During Meet with Rajnath Singh

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on April 26, 2026, and highlighted key road infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity between Assam’s plains and the state’s remote border districts.

The discussions centred on strengthening critical infrastructure in strategically sensitive areas. A major focus was the Akajan–Likabali–Bame corridor, which includes the construction of an important bridge over the Taro Tamak River. This all-weather route is expected to significantly enhance access to Upper Subansiri and Shi-Yomi districts, benefiting both civilian movement and defence preparedness along the international border.

Most segments of this vital corridor are being developed by the Border Roads Organisation, given the challenging Himalayan terrain. Khandu expressed gratitude for the Centre’s consistent support, noting that recent infrastructure advancements in border areas have boosted security as well as the quality of life for residents in far-flung regions.

Rajnath Singh assured the Chief Minister that all proposed infrastructure projects and development initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh would receive due priority and consideration from the Defence Ministry.

In a statement, Khandu described the meeting as productive and reiterated his appreciation for the ongoing partnership that is transforming forward areas of the state.

This engagement underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating border infrastructure for both strategic and socio-economic benefits in India’s easternmost frontier.
