Winter Adventure Tawang 2026 Initiative Aims to Boost Winter Sports and Tourism in Arunachal Pradesh

Tawang: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has described the Winter Adventure Tawang 2026 initiative as a significant step towards building a robust winter sports ecosystem in the state while unlocking the immense tourism potential of Tawang in the Eastern Himalayas.

During his visit to the ongoing training programme at the picturesque Panga Teng Tso Lake, CM Khandu interacted with trainees and observed skiing and snowboarding sessions. He appreciated the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants.

The initiative, which includes a training camp and the First Open National Ski Mountaineering Championship, is being conducted under the SkiMo India Federation. Currently, 46 trainees from Arunachal Pradesh and other parts of the country are undergoing expert training in skiing, snowboarding, safety protocols, and high-altitude endurance.

Pema Khandu highlighted that the natural snow-clad landscape and prolonged winter conditions of Panga Teng Tso Lake make it an ideal venue for such activities. He expressed confidence that the programme will nurture local talent, create new livelihood opportunities for the youth, and position Tawang as a prominent hub for adventure tourism in India.

The Chief Minister termed the initiative an encouraging platform for youth engagement and a promising beginning for organised winter sports development and sustainable tourism in the border district.

This effort is expected to not only promote winter sports but also boost eco-tourism and economic activities in Tawang and surrounding areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
