The 14th International Tourism Mart concludes its main sessions in Tawang, bringing together domestic and international tourism stakeholders to showcase the tourism potential of the Northeast and build new business partnerships. The mart marks the return of the flagship event to Tawang after 13 years, following its second edition in the town.
Participation underlines the scale of the gathering. The mart draws 43 international buyers from 22 countries, 42 domestic buyers from 16 states and Union Territories, and 81 sellers, alongside media representatives, influencers and tourism stakeholders. A major highlight is 1,580 structured business-to-business meetings, giving buyers and sellers direct engagement to shape new itineraries, commercial partnerships and promotion of tourism products across the Northeast.
Ministers discuss regional priorities
The deliberations conclude with a regional meeting of tourism ministers of the Northeast states, chaired by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Tourism ministers and senior officials from all eight Northeast states discuss tourism development priorities, regional cooperation, emerging opportunities and measures to improve tourist facilitation.
Key discussions focus on the Centre’s Dekho Apna Desh 2.0 initiative, the National Digital Tourism Stack, the Live Concert Economy, and Restricted Area Permit and Protected Area Permit requirements. The permit question matters for the Northeast, where access rules shape how easily domestic and foreign visitors can reach border and frontier destinations.
All eight states showcase their destinations
The technical sessions feature presentations by all eight Northeast states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura — showcasing their tourism attractions, emerging destinations and tourism circuits. The mart is organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and other Northeast states, with the aim of promoting sustainable and experience-based tourism.
Cultural heritage is central to the showcase. The North East Bazaar features traditional handicrafts, handlooms and regional products, while curated visits include Tawang Monastery, Tawang War Memorial and Urgelling Gompa.
What comes next for Northeast tourism
The test of the mart lies in what follows the meetings. Familiarisation tours for international delegates begin from Guwahati, offering a chance to experience tourism destinations and products across the Northeast first-hand. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged that the connections forged at the mart translate into real tourist arrivals, fresh investments and livelihoods for the state’s youth.
Tawang’s moment builds on a run of high-profile gatherings in the town. Sacred relics on exposition at Tawang Monastery are drawing devotees to the district, while winter sports initiatives are positioning Tawang as an adventure destination. The tourism mart now adds a commercial layer to that visibility, linking the region’s sellers directly to buyers from across the world.
