Arunachal Deputy CM Chowna Mein Inaugurates Revamped Sessa Hydel Station to Benefit 1,500 Households

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated the revamped Sessa Hydel Station (2 x 200 kW) in West Kameng district on April 8, significantly enhancing power supply to remote villages in the region.

The upgraded mini hydel project, located on the Sessa River, will now provide reliable electricity to approximately 1,500 households across nearby villages. The station was completely renovated and modernised with new turbines, generators, and improved transmission infrastructure.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy CM Chowna Mein described the project as an important step towards providing uninterrupted power to rural and far-flung areas of the state. He emphasised the government’s commitment to harnessing small and mini hydropower potential to ensure energy access in remote locations where grid connectivity remains challenging.

“This revamped Sessa Hydel Station will bring light and hope to many households. It is part of our broader vision to make Arunachal Pradesh self-sufficient in power generation through sustainable sources,” Mein said.

The project was executed by the Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) scheme. Officials informed that the station is now fully operational with improved efficiency and reduced maintenance issues.

Local residents welcomed the development, stating that reliable electricity will improve their quality of life, support education, healthcare, and small-scale economic activities in the area.

The inauguration of the Sessa Hydel Station is being seen as a positive example of the state government’s focus on decentralised renewable energy solutions for rural electrification in Arunachal Pradesh.
