Arunachal Pradesh’s ambitious Mega Food Park project has received a significant boost, with Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan reaffirming strong central support to accelerate its development.
In a recent interaction with senior Arunachal Pradesh official Likha Maj, the Union Minister reviewed the progress of various food processing initiatives in the state. Paswan fondly remembered his visit to Arunachal last year and inquired about advancements in the sector, expressing keen interest in the state’s lone Mega Food Park.
The minister assured continued backing from the Centre to strengthen the overall food processing ecosystem. He also expressed his intention to visit the project site soon for detailed discussions with the state government on providing critical infrastructure and facilities to fast-track implementation and ensure smooth operations.
Officials participating in the meeting highlighted that the Mega Food Park is a flagship initiative under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project aims to promote modern food processing industries, encourage value addition to agricultural produce, generate employment, enhance farmers’ incomes, and advance the “waste to wealth” approach.
A two-day review meeting involving promoters and stakeholders, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, had earlier discussed the project’s current status and future roadmap. Participants welcomed the ministry’s positive response and ongoing commitment to the sector’s growth in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh holds tremendous potential in organic farming, horticulture, and agro-processing. With better infrastructure, supportive policies, and improved market connections, the state is well-positioned to become a leading hub for food processing and organic produce in Northeast India. This development could unlock sustainable livelihood opportunities for local farmers, entrepreneurs, women self-help groups, and youth.
The renewed push for the Mega Food Park underscores a collaborative effort between the Centre and the state government to transform Arunachal’s rich agricultural resources into economic prosperity, benefiting communities across the region.
