Empowering Local Farmers: ‘Mission Krishi Veer’ Connects Arunachal’s Agriculture to Indian Army Supply Chain

In a significant move toward regional self-reliance and rural economic upliftment, the Indian Army has officially launched “Mission Krishi Veer” at the 274 ASC Supply Depot in Tezu, Lohit district. This strategic “Farm-to-Force” initiative is designed to bridge the gap between local cultivators and institutional buyers, specifically the armed forces stationed in Arunachal Pradesh.

Bridging the Gap: Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan in Action

The launch event, held recently in Tezu, marks a practical realization of the historic slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.” Lohit Deputy Commissioner, Kesang Ngurup Damo, emphasized that this mission creates a “win-win” scenario. While the Indian Army gains access to fresh, high-quality, and nutritious local produce, farmers secure a stable and assured market for their crops.

Key Objectives of Mission Krishi Veer

  • Direct Market Access: By linking farmers directly to the 274 ASC Supply Depot, the mission eliminates middle-men, ensuring better profit margins for the producers.

  • Guaranteed 48-Hour Payments: Facilitated by the Arunachal Pradesh Agricultural Marketing Board (APAMB), the scheme guarantees that farmers receive payments within 48 hours of delivery.

  • Promoting Organic Farming: Officials are leveraging this platform to encourage farmers to adopt organic cultivation. This transition is expected to boost both the economic value of the produce and the long-term health of the consumers and the soil.

  • Reducing Migration: By creating sustainable entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities within the agricultural sector, the mission aims to curb rural-to-urban migration in the region.

Strengthening Civil-Military Ties

The operational framework, presented by APAMB CEO Okit Palling, highlights the role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and local cooperatives like Jang LAMPS. Commanding Officer of the 502 ASC Battalion, Col. Anil Kumar Loohach, noted that the initiative does more than just boost the economy; it fosters a deeper, harmonious bond between the armed forces and the local communities they protect.

Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) Baplalum Chiba further urged local SHGs to maintain high-quality standards to ensure the longevity and success of this partnership. The event concluded with a symbolic exchange of produce, signaling the official start of a more resilient local supply chain.

Conclusion

Mission Krishi Veer stands as a cornerstone for Atmanirbhar Arunachal. By integrating local agriculture with military logistics, the state is not only securing its food supply but also empowering its farming community to become successful entrepreneurs.
