ITANAGAR – The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), has officially lauded the Mayor of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), Tamme Phassang, for his proactive leadership in driving cleanliness and environmental sustainability within the state capital.
Recognition of Urban Excellence
During a recent meeting at Raj Bhavan, Governor Parnaik reviewed the progress of various urban developmental projects. He expressed high appreciation for the Mayor’s consistent efforts in organizing large-scale cleanliness drives and implementing “Green Itanagar” policies. The Governor noted that these initiatives have significantly improved the aesthetic appeal and hygiene standards of the capital city.
Focus on Sustainable Development
The discussions highlighted several key pillars of the Mayor’s current strategy:

Decentralized Waste Management: Strengthening the collection and disposal systems at the ward level to ensure a garbage-free city.

Beautification Projects: The introduction of ornamental plantations and the development of public parks to increase urban green cover.

Community Participation: Encouraging citizens and local youth organizations to take ownership of their neighborhoods through “Jan Bhagidari” (public participation).
Governor’s Call to Action
While praising the visible changes, the Governor urged the IMC to continue its momentum. He emphasized the importance of transitioning toward more technologically advanced waste-to-energy solutions and maintaining the city’s drainage systems to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season.
Governor Parnaik reiterated that a “Clean and Green Itanagar” is not just a local goal but a vital component of the state’s broader mission to promote tourism and public health.

In response, Mayor Tamme Phassang thanked the Governor for his guidance and support. He reaffirmed the IMC’s commitment to making Itanagar one of the cleanest capital cities in Northeast India. The Mayor also highlighted upcoming plans to digitize municipal services to ensure greater transparency and efficiency for the residents of the Capital Complex.
