In a decisive operation, the Banderdewa Police arrested a suspected drug peddler, Nur Jamal (27), following a high-speed chase. The arrest led to the seizure of 12.70 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹30,000.
Operation Details
Acting on a tip-off regarding drug trafficking activities, a police team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, initiated the operation under the supervision of Naharlagun Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rishi Longdo. Upon spotting the suspect, Jamal attempted to flee on a motorcycle, prompting a pursuit. The police successfully intercepted him near Jullang, Itanagar.
Seizure and Legal Action
A thorough search of Jamal resulted in the discovery of 10 vials containing heroin weighing 12.70 grams. Subsequently, a case was registered at Banderdewa Police Station under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and Jamal was taken into custody.

This operation is part of the broader “Operation Dawn 2.0,” aimed at curbing drug-related activities in the Itanagar Capital Region. Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo reiterated the department’s commitment to combating the drug menace, emphasizing the importance of such operations in safeguarding the community.
