Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik has firmly stated that individuals responsible for the recent disturbances at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) will face strict legal action, while calling for the immediate restoration of normal academic activities on campus.

Governor Emphasizes Peace and Accountability

During a meeting with NERIST Director Prof. Narendranath S at Raj Bhavan, the Governor, who also serves as President of the NERIST Society, expressed serious concern over the recent incidents. He stressed the need for all stakeholders to work collaboratively to maintain peace, discipline, and a conducive learning environment at the premier technical institution.

Prof. Narendranath updated the Governor on current developments and the measures being implemented to resume regular classes while ensuring the safety and well-being of students and faculty members.

Focus on Institutional Excellence

Highlighting NERIST’s status as a leading higher education institute in the Northeast, Governor Parnaik noted that any disruption harms students’ academic progress and future opportunities. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to a thorough investigation into the unrest, assuring that those found guilty would be held accountable under the law.

The Governor appealed to students, faculty, administration, and all concerned parties to exercise restraint and uphold the institution’s reputation for academic excellence and inclusivity.

Background of the NERIST Controversy

The deemed university near Itanagar has faced significant turmoil in recent weeks due to administrative and recruitment-related disputes. Tensions escalated earlier this month following the resignation of the Director amid disagreements over recruitment processes and disciplinary actions against certain officials.

These issues sparked protests and broader debates on governance and institutional autonomy, prompting widespread calls for restoring a stable academic atmosphere.
