Pasighat: In a swift anti-drug operation under ‘Operation Dawn 2.0’, East Siang district police arrested a man with suspected heroin and ganja while he was entering Pasighat town on May 5, 2026.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs about narcotic movement, a team from Pasighat Police Station set up a naka checkpoint around 9:05 AM and intercepted a night super bus. The suspect, identified as Maklung Tayeng (resident of Mebo in East Siang district), was taken off the bus and searched in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
During the search, police recovered 1.49 grams of suspected heroin (including packaging) and 3.12 grams of ganja (including packaging). The seized substances were weighed, sealed, and properly documented as per procedure, with the entire operation video-recorded for transparency.
A case has been registered at Pasighat Police Station under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayub Boko, who heads the Anti-Drug Squad, confirmed the arrest. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba commended the team and reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs. He appealed to citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb drug trafficking in the area.
