Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) KT Parnaik has urged the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) to extend greater support for developing sports infrastructure and boosting the agri-horticulture sector in the state.
The Governor made this appeal during a meeting with Union Minister for DONER and Minority Affairs Kirren Rijiju in New Delhi on April 15.
Governor Parnaik highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh has immense potential in sports, particularly in adventure and winter sports, given its diverse topography and high-altitude terrain. He requested special assistance for upgrading existing sports facilities and establishing new centres of excellence, especially in mountaineering, skiing, football, and archery.
On the agriculture and horticulture front, the Governor stressed the need for modern interventions to enhance productivity, improve post-harvest management, and strengthen market linkages for farmers. He sought DONER’s support for cold chain infrastructure, processing units, and irrigation projects to transform the state’s agri-horticulture economy.
KT Parnaik also briefed the Union Minister about the state’s ongoing developmental priorities and the challenges faced due to difficult terrain and limited connectivity.
Union Minister Kirren Rijiju assured the Governor of continued central support for the holistic development of Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast region.
This high-level meeting is expected to pave the way for enhanced funding and technical assistance from DONER in the coming months.
