Arunachal Governor KT Parnaik Pays Floral Tribute to 1962 War Martyrs at Jaswant Garh War Memorial

Jaswant Garh (Tawang): Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) KT Parnaik on Wednesday paid heartfelt floral tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1962 Sino-Indian War at the historic Jaswant Garh War Memorial in Tawang district.

The Governor visited the memorial, located near the Sela Pass, to honour the supreme sacrifice of Jaswant Singh Rawat (MVC) and other gallant soldiers of the 4th Garhwal Rifles who fought valiantly against heavy odds in the Battle of Naurang La and Sela Pass.

Governor Parnaik, a decorated Army veteran himself, stood in silence and offered floral tributes at the memorial. He described the site as a symbol of extraordinary courage, patriotism, and selfless service to the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said the sacrifices made by the martyrs in 1962 continue to inspire generations of Indians. He emphasised the importance of remembering and honouring the bravery of our armed forces, especially those who defended the country’s frontiers in the most challenging Himalayan terrain.

The Jaswant Garh War Memorial is dedicated to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who single-handedly fought the Chinese forces for three days before laying down his life. The memorial has become a place of pilgrimage for visitors and serves as a powerful reminder of the courage displayed by Indian soldiers during the 1962 conflict.

Senior civil and military officials accompanied the Governor during the visit.
