Dhubri: In a vibrant display of faith and unity, thousands of devotees gathered at the historic Dhubri Eidgah Maidan in western Assam’s Dhubri district to offer special Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, marking the culmination of Ramadan 2026. The large open prayer ground, one of the prominent Eidgah sites in the region, witnessed massive participation from local residents and surrounding areas as the Muslim community celebrated the joyous occasion.
The prayers commenced early in the morning under clear skies, led by local Imams, with rows upon rows of worshippers dressed in traditional attire filling the expansive field. The event reflected the spirit of Eid—emphasizing gratitude, forgiveness, charity, and community bonding—following a month of fasting, reflection, and devotion.
Dhubri, located near the India-Bangladesh border and known for its significant Muslim population, has long been a focal point for large-scale Eid congregations in lower Assam. The massive turnout this year underscored the peaceful and inclusive nature of the celebrations despite occasional regional challenges.
Following the congregational prayers, devotees exchanged warm greetings of “Eid Mubarak,” shared sweets, and visited family and friends, reinforcing social ties. Many also distributed Zakat and Fitra to the less privileged, in keeping with Islamic traditions.
Local authorities ensured smooth arrangements, including traffic management, security deployment, and medical standby, allowing the event to proceed without any untoward incidents. The peaceful conduct of such large gatherings highlights the harmony and communal spirit prevalent in Assam’s diverse society.
Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 brought renewed hope and joy to families across the state, with similar prayers held at mosques and Eidgahs in Guwahati, Silchar, Barpeta, and other districts. The festival serves as a reminder of unity, compassion, and shared cultural heritage in the Northeast.
