Arunachal CM Pema Khandu Congratulates Tingong Wangpan on Gold Medal and National Record at Senior National Para Athletics Championships

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended heartfelt congratulations to para-athlete Tingong Wangpan from Longding district for securing the gold medal in the men’s 100m T35 category at the 24th Senior National Para Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Adding to the pride, Wangpan also shattered the existing national record in the event, marking a historic milestone for the state’s para-sports community.

In his message, CM Khandu praised the athlete’s exceptional performance, dedication, discipline, and relentless hard work. “This achievement reflects the growing talent of athletes from remote districts like Longding,” he stated, highlighting how such successes inspire greater participation in sports across the state. The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to Wangpan for continued excellence in upcoming national and international competitions.

Tingong Wangpan’s triumph in the T35 classification—reserved for athletes with coordination impairments such as cerebral palsy or similar conditions—has brought immense pride to Longding district and the entire Northeast region. The feat underscores the rising potential of para-athletes from Arunachal Pradesh’s remote and underserved areas, where access to training facilities remains challenging.

This gold medal and record-breaking performance is seen as a motivational boost for aspiring para-athletes in the state, encouraging more youth from hilly terrains to pursue competitive sports. Authorities and sports enthusiasts alike view it as a testament to the determination of individuals overcoming geographical and infrastructural barriers to excel on the national stage.

The 24th Senior National Para Athletics Championships showcased top talent from across India, with Wangpan’s victory standing out as a highlight for Arunachal Pradesh’s emerging sporting prowess.
