Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to make a high-profile visit to Assam, where he will participate in a spectacular airshow and roll out a series of transformative development initiatives totaling more than Rs 5,450 crore. These projects are geared toward elevating connectivity, bolstering digital frameworks, advancing higher education, and improving urban transportation across the Northeast.
As per details from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi’s itinerary begins with his arrival at the innovative Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh around 10:30 AM. Here, he will observe a dynamic aerial demonstration featuring advanced fighter jets, cargo aircraft, and helicopters.
This ELF stands out as the pioneering facility of its type in the Northeast, crafted in partnership with the Indian Air Force. Engineered for versatile use, it accommodates both defense and commercial flights in crisis situations. It can manage fighter planes weighing up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes at maximum takeoff, proving essential for emergency relief and tactical maneuvers in the area.
Around 1 PM, the Prime Minister will examine the recently constructed Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu spanning the Brahmaputra River. This Rs 3,030 crore six-lane extradosed Prestressed Concrete (PSC) bridge links Guwahati to North Guwahati, marking a first in the Northeast. It promises to slash commute times to roughly seven minutes.
Given the area’s proneness to earthquakes, the structure features advanced base isolation via friction pendulum bearings for stability. It also includes robust stay cables for longevity and a sophisticated Bridge Health Monitoring System (BHMS) that enables continuous oversight, proactive issue identification, and superior safety standards.
Subsequently, at approximately 1:30 PM, Modi will officially launch and dedicate multiple projects at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati.
A highlight includes the opening of the National Data Centre for the Northeast in Amingaon, Kamrup district. This cutting-edge setup boasts an 8.5 MW sanctioned load and 10 kW average rack capacity, designed to run vital government applications and act as a backup for national data centers. In line with the Digital India initiative, it will fortify the region’s tech infrastructure, guaranteeing efficient and safe public service provision.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will unveil the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, anticipated to significantly elevate management and higher education standards in the Northeast.
He will also initiate operations for 225 electric buses as part of the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, distributed across Guwahati (100), Nagpur (50), Bhavnagar (50), and Chandigarh (25). This rollout is projected to serve over 50 lakh people with eco-friendly, cost-effective, and dependable transit options, thereby upgrading city commuting and living standards.
These endeavors reflect the central government’s focus on accelerating growth and modernization in Assam and the broader Northeast, promising enhanced economic prospects and quality of life for residents.
