Arunachal Pradesh Shines with 84 Medals, Finishes Runners-Up at 2nd North East Para Games 2025

Arunachal Pradesh delivered a stellar performance at the 2nd North East Para Games 2025, clinching an impressive haul of 84 medals to secure second place in the overall medal tally. The week-long event, hosted in Arunachal from November 24 to 30, showcased the extraordinary talent and unbreakable spirit of para-athletes from across the eight northeastern states.

  • Gold: 30
  • Silver: 28
  • Bronze: 26

The contingent excelled across multiple disciplines, including athletics, badminton, table tennis, chess, swimming, and archery, proving that determination and skill know no boundaries.

Several athletes emerged as the stars of Arunachal’s campaign:

  • Tadung Komu (Visually Impaired) – Multiple gold medals in athletics
  • Yomgam Lapung – Dominant in powerlifting and field events
  • Mika Pikar – Swept medals in swimming
  • Tilling Muri – Excelled in badminton (singles and doubles)

The team’s success was powered by rigorous training under the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, with special support from the Arunachal Paralympic Committee and coaches who worked tirelessly with athletes from remote districts.

Official Pride and Recognition

Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated the contingent, stating: “84 medals and 2nd position – this is not just a sporting achievement, it’s a celebration of courage, resilience, and the human spirit. Our para-athletes have made Arunachal proud and inspired millions.”

Sports Minister Mama Natung praised the athletes’ dedication: “These champions have shown that disability is only a state of mind. Their performance at home soil has set a new benchmark for inclusive sports in the Northeast.”

  • Over 700 para-athletes from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and host Arunachal competed.
  • Assam topped the medal tally, with Arunachal emerging as a strong runner-up.
  • The Games featured 10 sporting disciplines and were inaugurated by Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik.

The success has boosted momentum for para-sports development in Arunachal, with calls for better infrastructure, dedicated training centres, and increased funding. Several medal winners are now eyeing qualification for national and international events, including the 2026 Asian Para Games.
