Health Department Unveils Evidence-Based Guidelines to Combat Rising NCD Burden, Empowering Frontline Providers for Uniform Care Across Remote Facilities
Arunachal Pradesh’s Health and Family Welfare Department has introduced a transformative set of standardized treatment frameworks tailored to tackle the surging prevalence of diabetes and hypertension, marking a bold leap in non-communicable disease (NCD) combat strategies. The initiative features a dedicated State Treatment Protocol for Diabetes Mellitus alongside refreshed Standard Treatment Protocols (STPs) for Hypertension, formally released by Health Commissioner Pawan Kumar Sain and Health Secretary Vivek H.P.
During the unveiling, Commissioner Sain highlighted the protocols’ role as a cornerstone for elevating healthcare consistency statewide. “These uniform, research-backed guidelines mark a game-changing advancement in our fight against NCDs,” Sain stated, emphasizing their potential to deliver steady clinical support, enhance patient results, and ensure seamless care continuity from grassroots Health & Wellness Centres to bustling District Hospitals.
Health Secretary Vivek H.P. credited the State Expert Committee’s rigorous contributions, which blended national benchmarks with Arunachal’s distinct realities—factoring in rugged landscapes, scattered communities, and evolving health behaviors. “The team’s contextual expertise and thorough evaluations have crafted adaptable tools that address our unique service hurdles,” H.P. noted, applauding key contributors like Director of Medical Education Dr. Hage Ambing, TRIHMS Medicine Head Dr. Taso Beyong, and Community Medicine Head Dr. Anoop Dev, alongside fellow public health innovators.
The protocols emerge against a backdrop of escalating diabetes and hypertension incidences, where community screenings via the National Programme for Prevention and Control of NCDs have boosted early identification but exposed inconsistencies in management. Designed for practicality, the guidelines equip primary caregivers with clear, phased algorithms, fostering judicious medication practices, robust referral pathways, and precise NCD portal tracking to curb complications like kidney damage, strokes, heart issues, and eyesight loss.
Tailored for Arunachal’s demanding geography—where advanced facilities are often out of reach—these tools prioritize proactive interventions at community and district levels. Officials stress that bridging these gaps is essential for slashing early deaths and uplifting overall wellness, aligning with the state’s holistic NCD action plan.
This rollout cements Arunachal’s proactive stance on chronic illness prevention, blending local insights with national standards to build resilient health networks that serve every corner of the state with equity and excellence.
