Power Minister Chowna Mein Unveils DHPD 2.0 with New Leadership Roles and 96 Fresh Positions to Streamline Mega Projects Across Key River Basins
Arunachal Pradesh is accelerating its vision to dominate India’s hydropower landscape through a sweeping reorganization of the Department of Hydropower Development (DHPD), introducing a streamlined basin-specific framework designed to boost operational agility and technical prowess. This transformative shift, christened DHPD 2.0, equips the department with enhanced manpower and sharper oversight to navigate the complexities of the state’s vast untapped potential.
In a ceremonial handover, Power Minister Chowna Mein delegated basin-wise responsibilities to the newly appointed Chief Engineers, signaling the dawn of a more responsive and accountable era in energy infrastructure. The revamp carves the department into four pivotal basins—Kameng, Subansiri, Siang, and Dibang-Lohit-Tirap—each helmed by a dedicated Chief Engineer tasked with end-to-end project management, vigilant monitoring, and seamless stakeholder coordination.
To fuel this momentum, the initiative injects 96 new technical and administrative roles, fortifying field operations and bridging critical gaps in expertise. Circles and divisions within the structure now bear names inspired by the state’s majestic rivers, a nod to Arunachal’s profound bond with its waterways that not only powers progress but also embodies cultural reverence.
The overhaul sharpens work distribution among engineers, promising accelerated timelines for flagship projects while fostering tighter inter-agency ties. A core pillar remains elevating technical know-how, with targeted programs exposing professionals to world-class national and global hydropower ventures, ensuring Arunachal’s workforce stands at the forefront of innovation.
“This forward-thinking reform is our blueprint for a powerhouse state—efficient, empowered, and eternally tied to nature’s flow,” Mein declared, aligning the changes with the “Powering Progress, Naturally” mantra. He reaffirmed the government’s pledge to catapult Arunachal into the nation’s renewable energy vanguard, harnessing its riverine bounty to drive sustainable growth and energy security.
This strategic pivot not only amplifies project delivery but also positions Arunachal as a model for basin-centric governance, where local insights fuel national ambitions and the roar of rivers echoes in every watt of clean power.
