Arunachal Expands Youth Adventure Training at NIMAS, Doubling Slots to 400 for Thrilling Career Boost

State Initiative Targets Skill Development in Mountaineering and Extreme Sports to Ignite Tourism and Local Employment Opportunities

Arunachal Pradesh is ramping up its commitment to nurturing the next wave of adventure experts by doubling the annual government-sponsored training slots at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in Dirang. Chief Minister Pema Khandu shared this exciting development, highlighting how the expansion from 200 to 400 trainees will empower young talents with elite skills in high-adrenaline pursuits.

This strategic move is designed to fuel the state’s burgeoning adventure tourism sector while opening doors to rewarding careers for local youth. By investing in professional certifications, Arunachal aims to transform its natural playgrounds—towering peaks, rushing rivers, and vast skies—into engines of economic growth and self-reliance.

“Exciting prospects for thrill-seekers! We’re boosting government sponsorships for NIMAS training from 200 to 400 youths each year,” Khandu enthused on social media, capturing the buzz around this youth-centric program.

During a recent tour of the institute, the Chief Minister inspected state-of-the-art facilities and ongoing upgrades alongside Director Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, a celebrated mountaineering veteran. NIMAS, nestled in the scenic West Kameng district and overseen by the Ministry of Defence, stands as India’s sole hub for comprehensive certifications in mountaineering, aero-adventure, and aqua-adventure disciplines.

Khandu praised the institute’s pivotal role in spearheading national expeditions and high-altitude mastery programs. “Reviewing NIMAS—our nation’s unique center for all facets of adventure sports—I’ve seen firsthand the world-class setup that’s molding fearless leaders,” he noted. The enhanced initiative is poised to instill values of resilience, teamwork, and innovation in Arunachal’s younger generation, positioning them as ambassadors of the state’s untamed wilderness.

This forward-thinking expansion not only promises to diversify job prospects in eco-tourism and expedition guiding but also strengthens Arunachal’s global footprint in sustainable adventure sports, drawing adventurers worldwide while preserving its pristine heritage.
