Welfare Group in Arunachal Pradesh Demands Inquiry into Alleged Land Compensation Scam

A prominent social welfare organisation in the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh has formally requested a comprehensive investigation into claims of large-scale misuse of funds in the land compensation scheme tied to the frontier highway project. The body has urged immediate suspension of key officials and transparency in the process to restore public faith.

According to the welfare body, documentation and video footage circulating locally allege that senior officials of the district administration colluded with unauthorised brokers to divert compensation payments meant for landowners whose land was acquired for the highway’s three phases. The organisation’s letter to the state leadership names specific officers and calls for involvement of national investigative agencies to probe potential money-laundering and document manipulation.

The appeal emphasises that genuine landowners may be deprived of their rightful payments if beneficiary lists and compensation records are not thoroughly re-verified. It also warns that such irregularities undermine both government development programmes and citizens’ trust.

In response, the state government has announced the constitution of a high-level committee to examine the allegations, with orders for immediate suspension of officials under suspicion. The administration reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and pledged decisive action against any proven malpractice.
