Jawaharlal Nehru College in Arunachal Pradesh Celebrates World Poetry Day with Captivating Readings

Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, marked World Poetry Day with a vibrant and engaging poetry reading session that brought together students, faculty, and local literary enthusiasts. Organized by the college’s Department of Hindi in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the event highlighted the power of poetry to inspire and connect communities.

The session featured an impressive lineup of over 30 students from various departments, who recited a mix of original compositions and timeless classics in Hindi and English. Faculty members also joined in, with Dr. K.K. Mishra (Associate Professor of Geography), Dr. Abani Doley (Assistant Professor of English), and Dr. Terbi Loyi from Arunachal Pradesh University adding their poetic flair to the occasion.

A special highlight was the participation of renowned Adi poet Kaling Borang, Advisor to the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) East Siang Branch, alongside Otul Jerang, Sectoral Secretary of APLS. Their recitations in the Adi language showcased the region’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The event, held on March 21, underscored JNC’s commitment to fostering creativity and literary appreciation. It was a collaborative effort with APLS East Siang Branch and the Bodum Collective, reflecting a shared passion for preserving and promoting poetry. Attendees described the session as “enthralling,” noting its blend of diverse voices and heartfelt expressions.

World Poetry Day, celebrated annually on March 21, aims to promote the reading, writing, and teaching of poetry globally. At JNC, this year’s celebration not only honored that mission but also served as a platform to elevate local talent and indigenous traditions, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
