The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has put the Arunachal Pradesh government on notice, issuing a one-week ultimatum over the contentious relocation of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS). The student organization has vowed to launch widespread protests if the state fails to reconsider its decision. Alongside this, ANSU has demanded the immediate suspension of the Secretary of the State Joint Entrance Test Authority (SJETA), accusing the official of administrative lapses in the education sector.
The uproar began with the government’s proposal to shift the EMRS, a move ANSU claims threatens the educational prospects of tribal students who rely on these schools. The union argues that the decision lacks transparency and disregards the needs of the communities it serves. “This relocation will create unnecessary hurdles for students in remote areas,” said ANSU President Nabam John during a press conference on Friday. “We demand answers and accountability.”
In addition to halting the relocation, ANSU has pointed fingers at the SJETA Secretary, alleging mismanagement in the joint entrance examination process and broader educational oversight. The union insists that suspending the official is essential to address systemic failures and rebuild trust.
Support for ANSU’s stance is growing, with students and locals voicing concerns over the potential fallout from the EMRS shift. The schools, designed to uplift tribal education in far-flung regions, are seen as a lifeline for many. Critics warn that any misstep could undermine years of progress in the state’s education system.
With the deadline looming, the state government has yet to respond officially. As tensions rise, the situation remains fluid, and the coming days could prove pivotal for both the EMRS program and Arunachal Pradesh’s educational landscape.
