Arunachal Assembly Approves 2025-26 Budget with Voice Vote

Itanagar, March 12, 2025 – The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed the state’s budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year on Wednesday through a voice vote, endorsing a financial plan aimed at driving growth and human capital development. The budget, amounting to Rs 39,842.23 crore, was presented by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also holds the finance portfolio, during the ongoing session.

The approval followed extensive deliberations in the assembly, where lawmakers discussed the budget’s focus on sustainable progress and skill enhancement. Presented on Monday, the financial blueprint reflects an 11.16% increase over the previous year’s allocation, despite a deficit of Rs 966.65 crore. Mein highlighted the government’s vision to designate 2025-26 as the “Year of Human Capital,” emphasizing investments in education, technology, and entrepreneurship to empower the state’s youth.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu praised the budget as a transformative step, aligning with the state’s long-term development goals. “This budget lays the foundation for a progressive Arunachal by prioritizing our people and their potential,” Khandu remarked during the session. The voice vote, a collective affirmation by the assembly members, underscored broad support for the proposed initiatives.

The budget allocates significant resources to bolster infrastructure, healthcare, and education, aiming to address the state’s unique challenges, such as its vast geography and dispersed population. Legislators from various parties participated in the discussions, with many lauding the emphasis on human resource development as a key driver of economic growth.

With its passage, the budget now sets the stage for implementation, with the government expected to roll out detailed plans in the coming months. This financial framework is seen as a pivotal move to accelerate Arunachal Pradesh’s journey toward prosperity and self-reliance.
