Investigations into the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai have gathered pace, with police making a fourth arrest in Haryana. A man named Sameer was arrested in Sonipat for allegedly facilitating contact between the three shooters and Anil Pandit, an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who is believed to be operating from the United States.
Sameer is suspected of being in contact with more people in Mumbai, and investigators are expected to pursue that angle further, according to reports. The Mumbai Police has formed 20 special Crime Branch teams to probe the case.
The shooters and the attack
Three alleged shooters were arrested at Kota railway station in Rajasthan, intercepted aboard the Pune-Jaipur Express during a joint operation by the Mumbai and Rajasthan Police. The accused had fled Mumbai after the shooting and were planning to travel to Delhi and then escape toward Nepal, police said.
Among the arrested are a 22-year-old Rapido driver from Begusarai in Bihar and two men from Sonipat in Haryana; one of the accused is a minor. Rehan, one of the shooters, was reportedly lured with a promise of settling abroad and Rs 35,000, while another accused, Phool Singh, had earlier attempted — unsuccessfully — to shoot a businessman in Amritsar when the pistol failed to fire.
Shroff’s car came under fire in Juhu as he left a football ground. Reports said seven shots were fired. The actor escaped direct bullet injury but suffered injuries to his left hand from gunpowder and glass fragments. His driver, Firdous, sustained a gunshot wound to the hand, while an autorickshaw driver was shot in the chest. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the actor’s residence and assured strict action, saying threats against public figures would not be tolerated.
The alleged gang link
Police allege the attack was coordinated through Anil Pandit, described as a key member of the Bishnoi gang operating from California. Pandit, a resident of Rai Kalan village in Haryana’s Panipat district, is said to have left India in 2023 and is now wanted in more than a dozen extortion cases in Haryana. According to investigators, he communicates with hitmen on the Signal app, sending armed assailants to create terror for the gang — claims that remain under investigation.
Recovered evidence includes CCTV footage across railway stations, a taxi trail from Mumbai to Surat, a motorcycle used by the trio abandoned near Andheri, and bullet shells sent for ballistic examination. As the net tightens in this high-profile investigation, police say dismantling the network behind the plot is the priority.
