Pakke Kessang has emerged as the first district of Arunachal Pradesh to erect an official boundary pillar along the inter-state boundary with Assam, marking a notable step towards the formal demarcation of a border that has seen longstanding disputes.
The official boundary pillar was installed at Dikalmukh in Pakke Kessang district, marking the demarcated boundary between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Health and Family Welfare Minister and Seijosa MLA Biyuram Wahge was present at the site alongside the newly installed pillar.
A Step Towards Clear Demarcation
The development is being seen as a step towards formally identifying and strengthening the demarcation of the inter-state boundary at the district level. Clear physical markers along the boundary are expected to help both administrations maintain clarity on jurisdiction and reduce the scope for local-level confusion along the border belt.
Award Nomination for District Administration
In recognition of the work related to the boundary demarcation initiative, the Pakke Kessang district administration has been nominated for the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s Award. The nomination underlines the significance the state government attaches to resolving boundary-related groundwork through its district administrations.
A Longstanding Boundary Question
The Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary has remained a longstanding issue between the two neighbouring states. Both states have undertaken measures in recent years to resolve disputes and establish clearer demarcation of their shared boundary, and the pillar at Dikalmukh adds to those continuing efforts on the ground.
