When most of the township had gone quiet, Tawang Police were just getting started.
In a sweeping late-night crackdown that stretched from the Old Market to the Buddha Statue area, the Tawang Police launched an intensive patrolling operation across the township on July 21 — moving through the town’s streets well into the early hours of the morning. It was the kind of visible, boots-on-ground policing that residents of border towns often say they want to see more of.
DSP Togum Gonggo Takes Charge
Leading the charge was Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Togum Gonggo, who personally headed the team from Tawang Police Station. The patrolling operation covered several key pockets of Tawang, including Dekangteng, Shyo Mandrelling, Leychemeyrong, AIR Colony, the Buddha Statue area, Nehru Market, the Old and New Market areas, and the District Hospital. That’s a wide sweep — essentially hitting every major commercial and public zone in the township. It wasn’t a symbolic presence. This was deliberate, structured, and thorough.
