Union Minister Jual Oram met with Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) K T Parnaik at Raj Bhawan on Thursday, where he informed the Governor of significant additional assistance granted to the state beyond the allocations provided under existing central schemes.
The Tribal Affairs Minister emphasized that this crucial support would be provided by 17 ministries, encompassing key sectors such as housing, healthcare, education, telecommunications, and sports.
The meeting focused on enhancing welfare measures for the tribal communities of Arunachal Pradesh.
Governor Parnaik stressed the imperative need for a more targeted approach to achieve holistic socio-economic development across the state. He advocated for special central assistance to address critical gaps in vital sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, skill development, employment generation, and income generation initiatives.
Emphasizing the importance of quality education, Governor Parnaik urged the Minister to approve the establishment of additional Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in remote areas of the state. He highlighted that these schools would equip students with a strong foundation for pursuing higher and professional education, thereby opening up a wider range of employment opportunities.
Recognizing the exceptional achievements of tribal children from Arunachal Pradesh in various sporting disciplines, Governor Parnaik strongly advocated for the establishment of a dedicated center of excellence for sports within the state. He envisioned a center equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, advanced training equipment, scientific support, and specialized coaching programs to nurture the sporting talents of Arunachal Pradesh’s youth and enable them to compete at the highest levels, bringing national and international recognition to the state.
Furthermore, Governor Parnaik emphasized the need for focused initiatives to promote tribal livelihoods and entrepreneurship. He stressed the importance of enhancing the efficiency of procurement, logistics, and marketing channels for tribal products to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans in the northeastern states.
Minister Oram expressed appreciation for the Governor’s valuable insights and assured him that the Ministry would carefully consider the specific requirements and priorities of Arunachal Pradesh.
