Montra Electric has strengthened its footprint in Northeast India with the launch of a new electric three-wheeler dealership in Silchar, Assam, established in partnership with Sunbird Super Energy. Located on Sonai Road, the outlet offers Montra Electric’s SUPER AUTO passenger model and SUPER CARGO load carrier, designed for strong range, reliable performance and lower operating costs for drivers, fleet operators and last-mile mobility providers.
The dealership has a fully equipped service bay, trained technicians and readily available spare parts, aiming to ensure quick, dependable after-sales service. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Assam legislators Khalin Uddin Mazumdar and Karim Uddin Barbhaya. The showroom spans 1,200 square feet, accompanied by a 900 square feet workshop, and marks Montra Electric’s 12th electric three-wheeler dealership in Assam.
What the company says
Speaking at the launch, Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of TI Clean Mobility, the company behind Montra Electric, said the Silchar opening reinforces the company’s commitment to building an accessible and trusted electric-vehicle ecosystem across India. He described Assam as emerging as a national leader in electric three-wheeler adoption. Dealer Principal Suhel Ahmed of Sunbird Super Energy said the partnership would help make Silchar cleaner and greener, praising the Super Auto and Super Cargo as strong performers and promising a customer-first approach.
Why Assam leads on electric three-wheelers
Assam is rapidly emerging as India’s frontrunner in electric three-wheeler adoption, with over 85 per cent of new three-wheelers sold in the state already electric — a trend that could make it the first state to reach 100 per cent electric penetration. For drivers, the economics are straightforward: lower fuel and maintenance costs against a higher upfront price, increasingly favouring electric models for high daily mileage. For towns such as Silchar, the shift also promises quieter streets and cleaner air.
What it means for Silchar
The launch further strengthens Montra Electric’s expanding national sales and service network. For Silchar, a commercial hub of the Barak Valley, a dedicated electric three-wheeler outlet with workshop support removes one practical barrier to adoption: the worry that an electric vehicle bought in the town cannot be serviced there. Whether the dealership converts curiosity into sales will depend on financing, charging support and the day-to-day reliability drivers experience on the road.
The Northeast continues to attract investment alongside central support. The Centre recently released a large advance tax devolution payment to eight Northeast states, while Tripura inaugurated its first tea auction centre in Agartala to secure better prices for growers. The Silchar dealership adds a private-sector chapter to that picture: clean mobility arriving not as a pilot project, but as a showroom on a main road.
