Montra Electric has strengthened its presence in Northeast India with the launch of a new electric three-wheeler dealership in Silchar, Assam. Established in partnership with Sunbird Super Energy, the outlet on Sonai Road offers the company’s SUPER AUTO passenger model and SUPER CARGO load carrier, aimed at drivers, fleet operators and last-mile mobility providers.
The dealership is supported by a fully equipped service bay, trained technicians and readily available spare parts, designed to ensure quick and dependable after-sales service. The showroom spans 1,200 square feet, accompanied by a 900 square feet workshop, giving customers a single place to buy, service and maintain their vehicles.
Assam’s growing electric three-wheeler market
Assam is emerging as a national leader in electric three-wheeler adoption, according to Montra Electric’s managing director Jalaj Gupta, who said the Silchar opening reinforces the company’s commitment to building an accessible and trusted electric vehicle ecosystem across India. This marks Montra Electric’s 12th electric three-wheeler dealership in Assam.
For drivers, the appeal of electric three-wheelers lies in lower running costs, simpler maintenance and quieter operation compared with fuel-powered vehicles. For fleet operators and small businesses, reliable service support matters as much as the vehicle itself, since every day off the road means lost income. A local dealership with parts and trained staff addresses that concern directly.
Local leaders back the launch
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Assam legislators including Khalin Uddin Mazumdar and Karim Uddin Barbhaya. Dealer principal Suhel Ahmed of Sunbird Super Energy said the company is proud to join the Montra Electric family and contribute to making Silchar cleaner and greener, expressing confidence in the SUPER AUTO and SUPER CARGO models and in a customer-first approach to service.
Silchar, as the main commercial centre of the Barak Valley, is a natural location for such an outlet. Last-mile transport connects markets, neighbourhoods and surrounding towns, and cleaner vehicles can improve air quality in a busy urban centre while keeping transport affordable. The rooftop solar push across Northeast institutions shows a similar shift toward cleaner energy in the region.
What comes next for EV adoption
Charging access, financing and driver awareness will shape how quickly electric three-wheelers replace older vehicles in Silchar. A growing network backed by service infrastructure removes a key barrier for first-time buyers: the fear of being stranded without support.
If the Silchar outlet builds trust with drivers and fleet owners, it could accelerate the valley’s transition to electric mobility, cutting fuel costs for operators and emissions for the city. The state’s broader investment in public services and infrastructure provides a backdrop against which such private investment can take root.
