The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has floated a tender to develop 3.54 MW of rooftop solar projects across premier educational institutions in Assam, Sikkim and Manipur, reflecting a push to bring clean energy directly onto campuses in the Northeast.
The projects will be developed under the Renewable Energy Services Company (RESCO) mode, under the RTSPV Tranche-II programme. The scope covers complete design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning, along with 25 years of operations and maintenance. Successful developers will also sign 25-year power purchase agreements with the institutions.
Where the Projects Will Come Up
In Assam, the installations include a 2,000 kW system at IIT Guwahati and a 125 kW project at IIIT Guwahati. Sikkim will host two projects at Sikkim Manipal University, with 700 kW at Majhitar and 550 kW at Tadong. In Manipur, Manipur University in Imphal will see a 165 kW rooftop system.
What the Tender Involves
Bidders are required to submit earnest money deposits varying by project site, ranging from Rs 1,23,750 to Rs 19.8 lakh, according to the tender details. The RESCO model means the developer funds, builds and maintains the system while the institution buys the power generated, lowering upfront costs for the campus.
Clean Energy on Campus
Putting solar on educational campuses serves a dual purpose: cutting electricity costs and carbon emissions for institutions, while giving students everyday exposure to renewable energy technology. For the Northeast, where terrain and grid access can complicate power supply, distributed rooftop generation also adds resilience at the point of use.
The tender adds to the region’s steady clean-energy build-out, from small hydel stations bringing power to rural households in Arunachal Pradesh to Northeast institutions earning national recognition.
