46 Vials Hidden, One Arrest: Itanagar Police Strike Hard in Anti-Drug Blitz

A rented room in the heart of Itanagar turned into a crime scene on July 23, when Capital Police pulled 46 plastic vials of heroin from what looked — on the outside — like just another ordinary residence.

Operation All Out Closes In

The Itanagar Capital Police made the arrest as part of “Operation All Out,” the ongoing crackdown aimed at strangling drug trafficking networks across the Capital Region. The Special Action Team (SAT) moved into the Mob-II area under Niti Vihar Police Station after receiving specific intelligence inputs, and what they found there confirmed their suspicions. The team was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Chamrak Arun and SDPO Itanagar Chera Saban — both APPS officers who clearly meant business that day.

The Arrest: Swift, Precise, By the Book

The suspect was intercepted near his rented accommodation after the team obtained the necessary authorisation. A search of the premises then yielded 46 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, with the total weight coming in at approximately 9.73 grams. It may not sound like a mountain of drugs, but in small vials designed for street-level distribution, 9.73 grams can do a staggering amount of damage to a community. The entire seizure process was handled strictly under the provisions of the NDPS Act, with Circle Officer Mary Tanyang present as the Executive Magistrate and two independent witnesses also on the spot. Clean, documented, airtight.

The Assam Connection

This is where the story gets bigger. During interrogation, the accused — a resident of Assam whose identity has been withheld in the interest of the investigation — allegedly disclosed the identity of his supplier, who is also reportedly based in Assam. So the trail doesn’t end in that rented room in Itanagar. It leads somewhere else entirely, and police are now chasing that lead. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the alleged supplier and dismantle the wider drug trafficking network.

What Comes Next

A case has been registered at Niti Vihar Police Station under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to identify other persons linked to the drug network. Capital Police have made it clear — Operation All Out isn’t slowing down. The stated goal is to make the entire Capital Region drug-free, and if this arrest is any indication, they’re willing to follow every thread, no matter where it leads.

Drug networks don’t collapse from a single arrest. But they do start to crack. And right now, somewhere in Assam, at least one supplier is probably wondering how much the man in custody has already said.
