The Arunachal Pradesh government is ramping up efforts to empower rural women by calling for tighter coordination between various departments. This strategic move aims to fast-track the ambitious Lakhpati Didi initiative, ensuring more self-help group (SHG) members achieve sustainable annual household incomes of ₹1 lakh or higher.

During a high-level state steering committee meeting held at the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) office in Itanagar, officials emphasised the critical need for seamless convergence of government schemes. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Secretary Sonal Swaroop chaired the session and directed departments to prioritise eligible beneficiaries under both state and central welfare programmes.

Focus on Convergence and Sustainable Livelihoods

Swaroop highlighted that greater inter-departmental synergy is essential to expand livelihood options and uplift the economic status of women in self-help groups across the state. Departments have been instructed to submit detailed reports on the benefits provided to SHG members under various Atmanirbhar schemes over the past two financial years. These insights will help evaluate and strengthen contributions toward the Lakhpati Didi goals.

The Lakhpati Didi programme, a flagship effort under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), seeks to transform the lives of rural women through diversified livelihoods, entrepreneurship training, skill development, financial inclusion, and better access to government schemes.

Representatives from key departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Skill Development, Veterinary Services, and the Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) participated actively. They showcased ongoing interventions and discussed skill gap assessments to design targeted capacity-building programmes for potential Lakhpati Didis.

Market Linkages and Future Steps

Officials from APAMB spotlighted market linkage opportunities, including the Mission Arun Himveer, to support women entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses. The committee also decided to share compiled data in upcoming district-level meetings, to be chaired by respective Deputy Commissioners, for more localised implementation.

All participating departments reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative action, aiming to accelerate the socio-economic empowerment of rural women in Arunachal Pradesh.

Why This Matters for Arunachal Pradesh

Stronger inter-departmental coordination is expected to remove implementation bottlenecks and maximise the impact of central and state schemes. This will help thousands of rural women move towards financial independence and contribute to the state’s overall development goals.
