The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully airlifted a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and essential rescue materials to the flood-affected Keyi Panyor district in Arunachal Pradesh, bolstering ongoing relief efforts amid severe monsoon-triggered flash floods.
Coordinated Air Support for Emergency Response
On June 24, the Arunachal Pradesh Department of Civil Aviation coordinated with the IAF’s Eastern Air Command in Shillong to facilitate the rapid deployment. The operation was launched following a formal request from Keyi Panyor Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, after flash floods struck the Poosa area.
Despite challenging weather conditions, an IAF aircraft first landed at Hollongi before proceeding to Pitapool, successfully delivering SDRF teams and critical supplies from the Itanagar Capital Region to support ground rescue and relief activities.
Multi-Agency Relief Efforts Underway
Civil Aviation Secretary M. Riba and Disaster Management Secretary Dani Salu commended the IAF, SDRF personnel, and Hollongi airport authorities for their prompt response in this critical situation. They also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the district administration, police, and disaster management teams working under difficult conditions on the ground.
Officials have indicated that additional air support missions will be planned based on the evolving situation and emerging requirements in the affected regions.
Broader Impact of Flash Floods
The flash floods have impacted several parts of Keyi Panyor district, adding to the series of monsoon-related challenges across western Arunachal Pradesh. Authorities continue to prioritize rescue operations, damage assessment, and relief distribution to affected communities.
