Nirjuli Police in Arunachal Pradesh have intensified their crackdown on narcotics trafficking with the successful seizure of 22.6 grams of suspected heroin and the arrest of two individuals from Assam in a swift anti-drug operation near Lekhi Village.
Details of the Anti-Drug Operation
Acting on specific intelligence about contraband being transported from Banderdewa toward the Capital Region, a police team led by Inspector T. Hassang, Officer-in-Charge of Nirjuli Police Station, and supervised by SDPO Naharlagun Rishi Longdo, intercepted a scooty (registration AS-07X-0255) near the Lekhi Truck Terminal following a brief chase on June 22.
The two occupants were identified as Munmun Morang (32) from Lakhimpur district, Assam, and Bikram Doley (30) from Majuli district, Assam. During a search conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate Khoda Bath, officers recovered 17 plastic vials containing orange-coloured powder suspected to be heroin from Morang’s possession. The total weight of the seized substance, including containers, stood at 22.6 grams.
Legal Action and Expanding Investigation
Nirjuli Police have registered a case under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the duo. Both accused have been formally arrested, and authorities are now probing the broader network, including the source of the drugs, intended destination, and any linked trafficking operatives.
Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, Dr. Nyelam Nega, reiterated the Arunachal Pradesh Police’s firm resolve to build a drug-free society. He appealed to citizens to come forward with credible tips on drug trafficking and substance abuse to strengthen enforcement efforts. Police confirmed that operations to identify additional members of the supply chain are actively underway.
