Changlang, March , 2025 – In a coordinated effort, Arunachal Pradesh Police and Assam Rifles confiscated a substantial cache of ammunition in southern Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, suspected to be connected to the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (Yung Aung faction) (NSCN-K YA). The operation took place in the Miao area of Changlang district, targeting insurgent activities near the Indo-Myanmar border.
Acting on precise intelligence, the joint team raided a location in Namphai-I village, uncovering 135 rounds of ammunition typically used in AK-series rifles, along with two magazines. Authorities believe the stockpile was intended for use by members of ULFA-I and NSCN-K YA, two banned outfits known for operating in the region. The seizure marks a significant blow to the groups’ logistical capabilities in this border area.
A senior police official stated that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and maintain stability in Arunachal Pradesh’s sensitive southern districts. The recovered items have been secured, and investigations are underway to trace their origin and intended recipients. No arrests were reported during the raid, but officials hinted at possible follow-up actions based on emerging leads.
The Miao region, close to Myanmar, has long been a hotspot for militant movements due to its rugged terrain and proximity to international borders. This latest recovery underscores the persistent security challenges in the Northeast, where joint operations between state and central forces remain crucial to countering insurgent threats. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying surveillance and disrupting such networks in the state.
