Itanagar, March , 2025 – In a commendable environmental initiative, contestants of the Miss AAPSU 2025 pageant participated in a cleanup drive along the Yagamso River, located within IG Park in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The effort, carried out on Monday, resulted in the removal of approximately 1,700 kilograms of waste, showcasing a blend of beauty and responsibility toward nature conservation.
The cleanup was organized collaboratively by the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and the Miss AAPSU organizing team, with assistance from Itanagar Smart City. Timed to coincide with World Wildlife Day, the initiative aimed to promote ecological awareness among the 28 participants, who represent various tribes across the state. The event underscored the importance of preserving natural resources, particularly rivers, which are vital to the region’s ecosystem.
Khoda Yallam, the AAPSU Women Cell General Secretary and chairperson of the Miss AAPSU organizing committee, emphasized the hands-on learning experience for the contestants. She noted that the drive was designed to instill a deeper understanding of environmental challenges and encourage the young women to inspire broader community action. The effort also served as a precursor to the upcoming AAPSU inter-tribe festival, merging cultural celebration with a commitment to sustainability.
The Yagamso River, a key waterway in the capital, has faced pollution issues in recent years, making such initiatives critical. Volunteers and organizers expressed hope that this cleanup would motivate residents to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to keeping Arunachal Pradesh’s natural landscapes pristine. The event highlighted the power of collective action in addressing environmental concerns while empowering the next generation of leaders.
