President Murmu Celebrates Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on Statehood Day, Praises Their Rich Heritage

On February 20, 2025, President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on the occasion of their Statehood Day, recognizing their invaluable contributions to India’s cultural tapestry. In a heartfelt message shared on X, she highlighted the states’ natural splendor and vibrant traditions, describing them as shining examples of India’s diversity.
“Greetings to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on Statehood Day,” President Murmu wrote. “Blessed by Mother Nature and steeped in cultural vibrancy, both states exemplify India’s unity in diversity. I am confident that their extraordinary traditions will endure, and I wish them new milestones of progress and excellence.”
Arunachal Pradesh, often dubbed the ‘Land of the Rising Sun,’ shares borders with Bhutan, China, and Myanmar, making it strategically significant. Its journey to statehood began as the North Eastern Frontier Agency (NEFA), transitioning to a Union Territory in 1972, and achieving full statehood on February 20, 1987.

Mizoram, marking its own milestone as India’s 23rd state on the same date, evolved from a Union Territory to a fully autonomous state, reflecting its unique identity and governance.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh echoed the celebratory sentiment, noting the state’s remarkable progress since 1987. He described it as a land of resilient spirits and boundless aspirations, stretching from the snowy peaks of Tawang to the verdant valleys of Ziro. Both states continue to inspire with their blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, as acknowledged by the President’s warm tribute on this significant day.
