Naharlagun, February 19, 2025 – In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Banderdewa police in Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) have arrested four interstate drug peddlers, including a woman, and seized approximately 129 grams of suspected heroin during two separate operations on February 13. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts to curb the narcotics trade in the region.
Acting on credible intelligence about the transportation of a large quantity of narcotic substances believed to be heroin, police set up a trap at Karsingsa, leading to the apprehension of one of the peddlers, identified as Tahir Ali, a 29-year-old resident of Bihpuria in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. During a search of his vehicle, authorities recovered 10 vials containing approximately 13.61 grams of the suspected drug hidden inside the glove box.
In a parallel operation on the same day, the police team nabbed three more individuals from Niya Colony in Banderdewa. The arrested individuals were identified as Faizul Islam and Faruk Ahmed Laskar, both from Hojai district in Assam, and Akhlima Begum, also from Assam. A thorough search, conducted in the presence of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo and Inspector Tayem Jamoh of Tax and Excise, Banderdewa, resulted in the recovery of two soap cases and 70 vials containing 115.62 grams of suspected heroin.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo praised the Banderdewa police team for their swift action, noting that the operation was carried out under the supervision of SDPO Rishi Longdo and led by officers including SI Koj Tada, SI SP Rai, ASI SK Jha, ASI A. Rajbhar, HC T. Bomdom, Ct. R. Tsering, and L/Ct. N.S Chauhai. Two separate cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Banderdewa Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to dismantle further links in the drug trafficking network.
This operation underscores the ICR Naharlagun Police’s commitment to combating the drug menace and protecting the community, especially the youth, from the scourge of narcotics. SP Gambo emphasized that such efforts will continue to ensure public safety and disrupt interstate drug syndicates operating in the region.
