Overview of Development Initiatives
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein recently visited Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district to assess ongoing development projects aimed at enhancing the region’s infrastructure and economic growth.
Dibang Multipurpose Project
A key focus of the visit was the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project, a significant hydropower initiative designed to boost Arunachal Pradesh’s energy capacity. Mein emphasized that the project exemplifies the state’s commitment to harnessing its hydropower potential through perseverance and collaboration. He acknowledged the vital contributions of local communities and youth in advancing the project, highlighting its anticipated role in driving economic development, promoting tourism, and improving connectivity within the state.
Infrastructure Enhancements
To support the project’s logistics, proposals have been made to improve infrastructure, including the construction of a bypass road connecting Roing, Pasighat, and Gerukamukh in Assam. Additionally, boating routes from the dam site towards Anini are planned to facilitate the movement of heavy vehicles carrying construction materials.
Inauguration of Police Station
During his visit, Mein inaugurated a newly constructed police station building in Dambuk, aiming to strengthen law enforcement and ensure public safety in the area.
War Memorial Heritage Project
The Deputy Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the ‘Conservation of Bongal Yapgo War Memorial Heritage’ project. The Bongal Yapgo, a wall built in the 19th century by the Adi (Padam) community, commemorates the 1894 Anglo-Abor War, where Adi warriors valiantly resisted British colonial forces. This conservation effort aims to preserve and honor the region’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
Conclusion
These initiatives reflect Arunachal Pradesh’s dedication to sustainable development, infrastructure improvement, and cultural preservation, promising long-term benefits for the state’s residents.
