The meeting aimed to address critical concerns related to drug abuse, including the reduction of drug-related problems, effective intelligence sharing, heightened awareness of anti-drug initiatives, comprehensive addiction monitoring and recovery support, and the formal establishment of an NCORD committee for Yupia.

The meeting was presided over by Jiken Bomjen, the esteemed District Magistrate-cum-DC of Papum Pare.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the paramount importance of conducting regular NCORD meetings, emphasizing the need for enhanced awareness campaigns, effective information sharing, and the identification of drug trafficking routes. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the drug menace and outlined a strategic approach for effectively addressing this issue.

Shri Taru Gusar, the esteemed SP-cum-Convenor, provided a concise overview of the meeting’s objectives and goals. Expressing deep concern regarding the escalating drug menace within the state, SP Gusar stressed the urgent need for improved coordination among all stakeholders. He elaborated on the proactive measures undertaken to combat this issue, including the monitoring of drug trafficking routes, the implementation of rigorous inspections at pharmacies, the provision of comprehensive rehabilitation services, and the active dissemination of awareness campaigns by the District Police.

The committee recommended the implementation of stricter measures to curb interstate drug trafficking, the intensification of regular patrols, and the establishment of community vigilante groups to actively assist the police in combating drug-related issues.

Furthermore, the committee advocated for the conduct of in-depth case studies on drug users and the comprehensive assessment of the profound impacts of substance abuse. While recognizing the significance of awareness campaigns, the members emphasized the critical need for more decisive and direct action.
