The ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak (ICAR-NRC on Yak), Dirang, successfully executed a vaccination-cum-health camp in Dwangba village, situated near Mandala in West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative, undertaken as part of the LHDCP project on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), aimed to bolster livestock health and mitigate the spread of contagious diseases among yaks and other livestock.
A total of 75 yaks and yak-cattle hybrids received vaccinations against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), a highly contagious viral infection that can significantly impact livestock populations. The camp also provided essential medical treatment for various other health conditions affecting animals in the region.
The Brokpa community, renowned for their traditional yak herding practices, expressed their sincere gratitude to the ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dirang, for their unwavering support in enhancing the health and productivity of their livestock.
Dr. Mokhtar Hussain, the Principal Investigator of the FMD project, spearheaded the camp’s organization under the expert guidance of Dr. Mihir Sarkar, Director of ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dirang. The successful implementation of this camp underscores the unwavering commitment of ICAR-NRC on Yak to improving livestock health and supporting the livelihoods of the indigenous yak herders in Arunachal Pradesh.
