Solidarity from Diyun Circle
With floodwaters still battering parts of Arunachal Pradesh, the Chakma community didn’t sit on the sidelines. The All India Chakma Students’ Union (AICSU), joined by the Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students’ Union (APCSU), Chakma Mahila Samiti, and several other community organisations, came together on Sunday and donated Rs 72,751 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The amount was formally handed over to T. Tama, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Diyun, by an AICSU delegation led by its president, Adv. Drishyamuni Chakma.
A Drive That Touched Every Corner
What makes this donation stand out isn’t just the number. It’s where it came from. The funds were raised through a dedicated Flood Relief Donation Drive run across Diyun Circle — and the response was nothing short of remarkable. Students, teachers, traders, daily wage earners, and senior citizens all contributed. Schools like New Rising English Academy, Sneha School, Karuna Vidya Niketan, Government Secondary Schools of Dumpather and Gautampur pitched in. So did the Diyun Bazaar Committee and residents of Bijoypur. This wasn’t a top-down charity exercise. It was grassroots solidarity, the real kind.
“Moral Responsibility,” Not Optional Generosity
Speaking at the handover, AICSU president Adv. Drishyamuni Chakma kept it plain and direct. He said standing with people in crisis isn’t a choice — it’s a moral responsibility. The donation drive, he made clear, was launched purely for humanitarian reasons, with no political color attached to it. He thanked every individual and institution that stepped up, because without them, none of this would have been possible.
Administration Takes Note
EAC T. Tama received the cheque and didn’t hold back in his appreciation. He praised the entire effort — the organisers, the volunteers, and every single donor — calling it a fine example of unity, compassion, and social responsibility working in action. He also urged people across the region to keep that spirit alive, especially during difficult times like these. It’s rare to hear a government official speak with this kind of warmth, and it felt genuine.
More Than Just a Donation
AICSU has made it clear this isn’t a one-time gesture. The union reiterated its commitment to humanitarian values and pledged to keep supporting communities in need. And honestly, that’s what matters most. Flood relief funds come and go, but when a community consistently shows up — not because someone told them to, but because they believe it’s right — that’s when real change takes root.
