New Delhi: India on April 12 strongly rejected China’s latest attempt to assign new names to several places in Arunachal Pradesh, terming the move “mischievous” and “baseless.”
Responding to media queries, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India “categorically rejects any mischievous attempts by the Chinese side to assign fictitious names to places which form part of the territory of India.”
He added that such attempts to introduce false claims and manufacture baseless narratives “cannot alter the undeniable reality” that these places and territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, “were, are, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”
The MEA also cautioned that such actions by China could negatively impact ongoing efforts to normalise bilateral relations between the two countries.
China has repeatedly released lists of “standardised” Chinese names for locations in Arunachal Pradesh, which India has consistently dismissed as having no legal basis. New Delhi maintains that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable part of India, and no amount of renaming can change the ground reality or India’s sovereignty over the state.
This latest rejection comes amid continued efforts on both sides to manage border tensions and improve overall bilateral ties.
