IMD Issues Storm Warning: Heavy Rain Lashes Arunachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, More Downpour Expected This Week

Itanagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a stormy week ahead as heavy rainfall continues to batter parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, triggering concerns over landslides, flooding, and disruption of normal life.

Arunachal Pradesh has been experiencing intense rainfall since the last few days, particularly in several districts including Tawang, West Kameng, East Siang, and Lower Dibang Valley. Several areas have reported waterlogging, landslides on hill roads, and damage to infrastructure. Low-lying areas and riverbanks are on high alert.

The IMD has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days in the Northeast region, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places.

Similarly, Tamil Nadu and parts of South India have been receiving widespread rainfall, with several districts recording excess precipitation. The weather department has issued orange and yellow alerts in vulnerable regions.

Residents in Arunachal Pradesh have been advised to take necessary precautions, avoid unnecessary travel in hilly and landslide-prone areas, and stay updated with official weather bulletins. Local administrations have been asked to remain on high alert and keep emergency response teams ready.

This early spell of heavy pre-monsoon rain has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the Himalayan foothills and northeastern states to extreme weather events.
