Anini: A crucial environmental public hearing for the proposed 680 MW Attunli Hydropower Project was successfully held on April 1, 2026, at Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley district in Arunachal Pradesh.
The hearing, organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), was chaired by Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Bekir Nyorak. It was attended by local residents, project-affected families, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
During the hearing, the project consultant presented key findings from the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP). The presentation covered the project’s technical design, proposed environmental safeguards, mitigation measures, and expected socio-economic benefits, including generation of local employment opportunities and infrastructure development.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu welcomed the public participation and described the project as the third major hydropower initiative in Dibang Valley. He highlighted that the Attunli project would drive economic growth, create jobs, strengthen local infrastructure, and contribute significantly to clean and green energy production for the state and the nation.
Feedback and suggestions received during the public hearing will be duly incorporated into the final appraisal process for securing environmental clearance.
The Attunli Hydropower Project is being developed to harness the hydropower potential of the Dibang Valley region while ensuring sustainable development with minimal environmental impact. Once completed, it is expected to boost the regional economy and support Arunachal Pradesh’s ambition to become a major hydropower hub in the Northeast.
This public hearing marks an important statutory milestone in the project’s development journey.
