Assam is gearing up for a landmark event as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives to experience a groundbreaking aerial demonstration at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. This visit will feature an impressive showcase involving fighter jets, transport planes, and helicopters, highlighting the region’s advancing infrastructure capabilities.
As outlined by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi’s schedule includes touching down at the ELF around 10:30 AM. This pioneering installation, the first in Northeast India, has been developed in collaboration with the Indian Air Force to accommodate urgent landings and departures for both defense and civilian aircraft. Functioning as a versatile asset, the ELF is capable of supporting fighter jets up to 40 tonnes and cargo aircraft up to 74 tonnes at full takeoff weight, making it invaluable for swift emergency responses, disaster aid, and relief missions.
Later, at approximately 1 PM, the Prime Minister will review the newly completed Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu over the Brahmaputra River. This Rs 3,030 crore six-lane extradosed Prestressed Concrete (PSC) bridge links Guwahati to North Guwahati, representing a pioneering engineering feat in the Northeast. It is projected to cut travel duration to merely seven minutes, incorporating cutting-edge seismic safeguards like friction pendulum bearings for stability, durable stay cables, and a Bridge Health Monitoring System (BHMS) for ongoing assessments, early issue detection, and superior safety.
By 1:30 PM, Modi will dedicate and launch a suite of developmental schemes exceeding Rs 5,450 crore at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati. These endeavors focus on upgrading transportation networks, digital systems, advanced learning opportunities, and city transit in the Northeastern states.
A standout project is the opening of the National Data Centre for the Northeast in Amingaon, Kamrup district. Equipped with an 8.5 MW power capacity and 10 kW average rack efficiency, this advanced hub will manage essential government operations and function as a backup for national data facilities. Supporting the Digital India agenda, it seeks to fortify the area’s ICT framework, delivering dependable and protected online services.
The Prime Minister will also formally open the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, poised to elevate standards in management and higher education throughout the region.
Furthermore, more than 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa initiative will be deployed across multiple locations: 100 in Guwahati, 50 in Nagpur, 50 in Bhavnagar, and 25 in Chandigarh. This expansion is set to serve over 50 lakh individuals with sustainable, economical, and efficient public transport solutions, thereby advancing urban movement and living conditions.
These launches exemplify the central government’s drive to propel growth, innovation, and accessibility in Assam and the wider Northeast, paving the way for enhanced economic vitality and resident welfare.
