In a major enforcement action to protect the environment and curb unauthorized industrial activities, the Kamrup district administration in Assam has demolished several illegal brick kilns operating under the Chhaygaon Revenue Circle.
The joint operation was led by Chhaygaon Revenue Circle Officer Nandan Nilotpal Bhagawati. The team included local village heads, officials from the Nagarbera Forest Department, and personnel from the Mandira police outpost. Heavy machinery, including excavators, was deployed to raze the structures in affected villages such as Bamunbari and Gelabari.
These brick kilns were running without proper permissions, causing significant environmental harm. They emitted toxic smoke and foul odors, polluting the air and impacting local communities. Reports also suggested that some operations continued despite awareness from certain local authorities.
Following the successful eviction drive, Circle Officer Nandan Nilotpal Bhagawati issued a stern warning to all kiln owners. He emphasized that no illegal brick kilns would be tolerated in the future. The administration remains fully committed to ongoing strict measures against any violators to safeguard the region’s environment and prevent further degradation.
This action highlights the Assam government’s growing focus on regulating brick kiln operations, ensuring compliance with environmental norms, and promoting sustainable development in rural areas.
