Congress Leader’s Scathing Attack at Tinsukia Joining Rally Exposes BJP’s Internal Strife, Economic Woes, and ‘Untrustworthy’ Leadership Amid Mass Defections
Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi unleashed a torrent of ridicule against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a high-energy Congress membership drive in Bijuliban, under the Digboi Assembly segment in Tinsukia district. The electrifying gathering at the Bijuliban Kankan Yuvak Sangha playground witnessed a staggering influx of 1,269 fresh recruits from rival outfits, including ex-BJP Tinsukia District Committee chief Lokeswar Moran and nearly 100 current and former members of the Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA), signaling a seismic shift in Upper Assam’s political tides.
Flanked by veteran Congress stalwarts like former Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij, Gogoi heralded the occasion as the third in a series of monthly induction spectacles, reaffirming the party’s pledge to open its doors on the 10th of every month. “We’re honoring our word with open arms, while the Chief Minister squanders his credibility on empty bluster,” Gogoi quipped, spotlighting the irony of BJP loyalists fleeing the fold for Congress’s inclusive banner.
Turning the spotlight on Sarma’s waning clout, Gogoi dismissed the CM’s self-proclaimed youthful vigor in politics as a hollow boast. “No one tunes into the Assam Chief Minister anymore—not even his own party faithful. The BJP’s real headache is plotting his exit before the house of cards crumbles,” he jabbed, painting a portrait of isolation within the ruling ranks. Gogoi amplified the critique by mocking Sarma’s grip on sports institutions: “His right-hand man runs the BCCI, his left the ACA—yet they couldn’t track Uma Chetry’s return after her Women’s World Cup heroics. What kind of influence is that?”
The barbs sharpened on Sarma’s explosive assertion that singer Zubeen Garg’s demise was a murder plot. “Even BJP insiders dismiss him as unreliable. That SIT probe into my so-called Pakistan ties had Delhi colleagues in stitches—why peddle baseless tales?” Gogoi retorted, accusing the CM of a loose tongue that devalues every utterance. In a stinging climax, he proclaimed, “Today’s Gauhati University undergrad could out-debate Himanta Biswa Sarma. He blurts nonsense without a second thought, leaving his words worthless. Isolated and expendable, he’s resorting to eviction drives to mask his flops.”
Gogoi didn’t spare the state’s fiscal frailties, lambasting the administration for siphoning funds amid widespread hardship. “Folks lack cash for subsidized rations, JJM contractors riot over unpaid dues, contract teachers face the axe, and tea workers miss rightful bonuses—where’s the money vanishing?” He exposed perceived hypocrisies, noting Sarma’s fanfare for TATA’s semiconductor push while ignoring TATA tea estate woes, “all because their bosses cozy up to the BJP.”
Crowning the rally’s momentum, Gogoi framed the swelling Congress wave—nearing 8,000 inductees statewide—as a grassroots uprising for dignity, equity, and accountability. This Tinsukia triumph not only bolsters the opposition’s arsenal but underscores a burgeoning revolt against perceived governance gaps, positioning Congress as the vanguard of Assam’s renewed political reckoning.
