Education Minister P.D. Sona Ignites ‘Hill Top Radiance’ Festivities, Stressing NEP 2020’s Role in Shaping Versatile Leaders for State Progress
Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) in Arunachal Pradesh kicked off its 57th Annual College Day under the captivating theme ‘Hill Top Radiance’ at the lower campus, drawing a vibrant crowd of students, educators, and leaders. The inauguration, led by Education Minister P.D. Sona, spotlighted the transformative power of well-rounded education that transcends traditional academics, equipping young minds to lead with innovation and integrity.
Sona, who formally launched the week-long extravaganza, called for a paradigm shift in learning approaches to cultivate multifaceted individuals ready to propel Arunachal and India toward prosperity. Aligning his vision with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he declared, “Our youth represent the nation’s driving force—their energies must be harnessed through balanced growth to unlock boundless potential.” Joined by Transport and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing, Sona ignited the Olympic torch, passed along by student torchbearers Miss Albena Doley and Shri Karmin Tekseng, evoking symbols of collective aspiration and relentless pursuit of greatness.
The ceremony attracted an array of distinguished guests, including MLAs Ninong Ering and Tapi Darang, ADC HQ Pebika Lego, Principal Dr. Tasi Taloh, Pasighat Municipal Council Chief Councillor Okiam Moyong Borang, Vice-Principal Dr. Leki Sitang, JNC Alumni Association President Anning Borang, along with civic influencers, teaching staff, and eager learners.
Hailing JNC’s storied contributions since its founding in 1964, Sona celebrated the institution’s trailblazing efforts in expanding access to higher learning across Arunachal. He credited the college with molding generations of trailblazers who embody the essence of inclusive, pan-state solidarity, fostering a legacy of excellence that resonates far beyond its Pasighat roots.
Addressing representatives from the college’s spirited houses—Lohitang, Kamdi, Kangto, and Dapha—Sona inspired them to channel teamwork, ingenuity, and resilience into the upcoming literary, athletic, and artistic showdowns. “True victory lies in the grace of sportsmanship, not just the scoreboard,” he motivated, urging a spirit of camaraderie that mirrors real-world collaboration.
In response to a detailed representation from JNCSU General Secretary Yapung Hemi, outlining needs like perimeter fencing, an upgraded entry portal, expanded teaching resources, and improved sports field drainage, Sona pledged proactive support. He encouraged the submission of detailed blueprints aligned with forthcoming fiscal allocations to expedite these enhancements.
As Guest of Honour, JNC alumnus Ojing Tasing shared his profound pride in the students’ strides across disciplines, advocating for forward-leaning curricula that embrace cutting-edge ideas. He applauded the college’s pivotal role in building Arunachal’s human capital and committed to resolving commuting challenges raised by the student body, ensuring seamless access to knowledge.
Principal Dr. Tasi Taloh set the tone with reflections on JNC’s evolutionary arc—from humble beginnings to a premier hub of scholarship. Today, it thrives with 78 dedicated educators guiding nearly 5,000 enrollees through 14 undergraduate and four postgraduate streams in arts, sciences, and commerce. Taloh spotlighted consistent accolades in rankings, athletic arenas, and cultural spheres, while saluting faculty’s strides in scholarly pursuits, outreach, and societal contributions that cement JNC’s stature as a forge of distinction.
The program dazzled with student-led spectacles, including a grand synchronized dance routine and a rhythmic ensemble from VKV Oyan. Accolades went to the Hindi and Physics departments for clinching top honors in the ceremonial march-past.
Wrapping the launch, Assistant General Secretary JNCSU Anggit Moyong extended heartfelt appreciation to all contributors, crediting their involvement for elevating the occasion into a memorable showcase of JNC’s enduring vibrancy.
