East Kameng District in Arunachal Pradesh Launches Robust Anti-Drug Campaign

In a powerful move to combat drug abuse, East Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh has initiated a comprehensive community-wide anti-drug campaign, coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The campaign, spearheaded by the Women Welfare Organization (WWO) Seppa and the Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Drugs Association’s East Kameng District Unit, was launched in Watte village, marking a significant step toward fostering a drug-free society.

The initiative saw unprecedented community engagement, with local leaders, village elders, youth groups, teachers, and students rallying together. Sub Inspector Dumbang Taching and Medical Officer Marchi Pangia from Bulla Health Care Centre led the effort, emphasizing the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities. WWO Seppa President Sita Waii Gyadi called for integrating health education into school curriculums, stressing that the fight against drugs requires collective action from parents, educators, and citizens across all sectors.

The campaign featured awareness programs, pledge-taking ceremonies, and the distribution of educational materials to highlight the dangers of substance abuse. Organizers reported strong community participation, with plans to expand similar initiatives to neighboring villages, focusing on prevention through education rather than solely relying on enforcement measures. This approach reflects a growing recognition in Arunachal Pradesh that community-driven solutions are vital, especially in border areas vulnerable to drug trafficking networks.

The event underscores the state’s commitment to addressing the drug menace through grassroots efforts, aiming to protect the youth and promote healthier lifestyles across the region.
